The Christmas Cookie Platter Should Always Include Molasses-Spice Holiday Cookies

This special Molasses-Spice Cookie recipe is an old-fashioned Christmas cookies favorite that will be a huge success on your holiday cookie platter. The recipe makes approximately 36 cookies, so you may need to double the recipe to make enough for your holiday events. These Christmas cookies don't last, so don't make them too early; kept at room temperature in an airtight container, they should last about four days. As you prepare to make these wonderful homemade holiday cookies, make sure to gather all of your baking tools and ingredient into one area. This will simplify the entire baking process for you, making the activity much more pleasurable. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

The ingredients for this recipe include:

1 cups all-purpose flour

1-½ teaspoons of baking soda

1-teaspoon ground cinnamon

½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

½ teaspoon salt

1 ½ cups sugar

1 ½ sticks (12 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature)

1 large egg

½ cup unsulfured molasses

Using a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.

In a small bowl, measure ½ cup of sugar and set off to the side.

Using a large mixing bowl, combine 1-cup sugar, and butter. Using an electric mixer beat the butte and sugar until light and fluffy. Slowly beat the egg and molasses into the mixture. Reduce speed to the lowest setting and slowly begin to add the dry ingredients. Take your time, beating the mixture until dough just forms.

Using a small cookie scoop, scoop out dough and roll into balls. Roll each ball into the reserved sugar to coat and then place onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Set cookies about 3 inches apart on the cookie sheet. Bake only one sheet of cookies at a time, approximately 10-15 minutes or until the edges of the cookie are just firm. Allow to cool for one minute on the cookie sheet, moving to wire cookie-cooling racks to cool completely
